How to Use Discussion Forums For Internet Marketing

There are many ways to market a product. Direct mail, box, phone sales, web presence, and word of mouth. The world of discussion forums is a fantastic combination of web presence and word of mouth combined. Using these forums to actively talk about your product is one thing, but you can also use it as a passive tool.

Sig Lines
Most all discussion forums allow for a signature. These can be huge elaborate graphics or a simple text like. Putting your product in your signature line, hyperlinked to where it can be bought, especially with a teaser tag or a line about what purpose it serves, is a fantastic way to get people to click on it. Most discussion forums are on a specific niche. These are people who would be interested in products designed to supply that niche. You don’t even have to “hard sell” these people, just an simple “hey I was really impressed with -X-” and then it will spread virally.

Don’t Spam
One of the most despised things in discussion forums is persons that sign up to their boards and immediately post a hard sell to the product in all the categories they have with links to where to buy. Start off slow. Gain some trust, post some helpful items and questions, and then have it in your signature line first. Then work it into your profile. Next I don't know someone may question “how do I….?” and you can say, “well there is always this…” and you will not be spamming you will be performing a service.

Profile Help
Also have it in discussion forum profiles what you are promotion, marketing, or want to drive traffic to. More people look at a profile than you may imagine. This simple method can garner more internet marketing than most any other type of social networking.
